From 09 april till 18 june 2023

During the Euro-kartoenale Kruishoutem, we always want to put a guest country in the spotlight. Every edition, a new curator is appointed who knows the cartoons and cartoonists from the host country very well. This year, a duo was chosen to curate the exhibition of cartoons from Egypt: Fawzy Morsy, the founder and coordinator of Egypt Cartoon Blog and Ibrahim Abla of the Caricature Museum of Fayoum.

With this expo, they aim to simultaneously showcase contemporary Egyptian cartoon and caricature and highlight some perennial values from Egypt's cartoon past such as Alexander Saroukhan, Juan Sintes, Mustafa Hussein, George Bahgoury, Gomaa Farahat, Ahmed Hegazy, Ahmed Toughan and Mohamed Hakem.

Besides the cartoons that deal with a lot of social issues such as climate, peace and women's rights, there are also caricatures such as Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz, as well as Charlie Chaplin, Mahatma Gandhi and, of course, football star Mohamed Salah.

You can visit this exhibition in the ECC from 9 April till 18 June 2023, every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
