From 04 april till 20 june 2021

Jan Dewilde (º1955) lives in Kuurne (Belgium) and is a former teacher of plastic education.

But because the name Jan Dewilde causes confusion with a famous Belgian singer with the same name, Jan decided to use his mother's surname as a pseudonym: Jantje Dewaele.

His exhibition in the ECC shows his three-dimensional work, his often humorous assemblages of old materials.

“I don't work, I play. I collect old, useless objects from our common past, such as old working materials: pliers, rakes, planes, brushes, a child seat for the bicycle, wooden tops, etc. I sometimes also use beautiful street waste. By simple assembly - usually I only combine three objects - I create figures that balance between humor and melancholy. I like to place them in groups: couples, people and animals, mother and child, families, etc.”.
