Draw for Change

Back

In the ECC, Catherine Vuylsteke, author of the book 'Draw for Change', brings the stories of 6 female cartoonists to life through words, images and sound.

Draw for Change, the latest book by journalist Catherine Vuylsteke, tells the story of Mar Maremoto, Ann Telnaes, Rachita Taneja, Doaa El-Adl, Victoria Lomasko and Amany Al-Ali, six female cartoonists from the Cannes award-winning docuseries of the same name.

The cartoonists come from different worlds and belong to different generations. They collectively oppose patriarchal beliefs, authoritarian leaders, conservative thinking, religious laws and macho culture. They face the world with humour, daring and originality.

Catherine Vuylsteke spent many hours with each of them, listening to the painful memories, touching anecdotes, moments of happiness and triumph of the cartoonists.

During this transmedia evening, get to know these fascinating and courageous women who each compete with their pencils in their own way.
